Mass Baptism Breaks Out at Auburn, Popular Figure Spotted In the Water
Story by Bo Beard •19hAvenue less than a mile from Auburn University’s campus recently became the site of over 200 student baptisms in a single night, with head football coach Hugh Freeze taking part.
The revival-like scene took place following a worship event called “Unite Auburn” on campus, and eventually made its way to the baptism-site.
Jonathan Pokluda, lead pastor of Harris Creek Baptist Church in Waco, Texas was one of the main speakers at the Tuesday evening event.
Reportedly, one student in particular asked to be baptized following the time of worship, so a group of attendees headed to Auburn’s Red Barn.
One baptism quickly turned to multiple, which turned to dozens, which ended in hundreds.
Even football coach Hugh Freeze was seen heading into the water with an Auburn football player who gave his life to Jesus, but was weary to go in unaccompanied.
Senior Michael Floyd recalled, “I’ve seen Auburn basketball beat Kentucky, I’ve seen Auburn football beat Alabama, but I have never seen something like I did on Tuesday night.”
Student Kristen Carr, who made the post above, was amazed at what took place.
“Never in my life,” Carr said. “I was even talking to adults who were there that were a part of it, and they said that they had never witnessed anything like that.
“Everyone was so just excited and joyful.”
To make things even better, what was ultimately the incredible event that transpired, had begun as a prayer meeting of just a handful of ladies.
A weekly time of prayer in the University’s arena ultimately gained traction among other campus ministries, turning the simple meeting into a major gathering.
“We see God moving in our local churches, and so last night was just a ripple effect of what is already going on,” organizer Tonya Prewett said.
