Notes on player performances
  • We have a handful of upperclassmen that are too slow and way too easily beaten – bad angles, missed tackles, poor coverage, juked, etc. Specifically: Wooden, Mausi, Kite, Keys in last night’s game.
  • Luke Deal gets an honorable mention even though he’s offense. Deal missed a couple of key blocks at important times. He seems to save his whiffs for critical plays.
  • Played Mausi at edge and McLeod at LB - both looked and played out of position. Maybe they’re trying to get McLeod some film at LB since he’ll never play DE in the NFL. If that’s what they’re doing, last night’s film will not be helpful.
  • Keionte Scott at CB is a disaster – repeatedly abused, need him at safety/nickel
  • Sly Smith – bad angles, bad coverage, missed tackles, no contain. If only we had a really good safety/nickel available; say, somebody who is playing out of position right now and getting burned over and over…
  • Jerrin Thompson – inconsistent and a couple of dumb plays for a senior team leader. He did have some good plays too.
  • Kaleb Harris looked best among the young guys back there. Definitely more good than bad. Playing at the level Kayin Lee did last year.
  • Conner Lew – struggling - 2nd straight bad week, he’s lower half of the SEC after 3 games, and well out of the top 100 in FBS.
  • JH, DA, KS all with fumbles – JH with 2. If he can’t hold the ball, he needs to sit. Same for DA.

Overall
  • We seem to line up a full yard off the ball on defense.
  • Is there anything on earth more confident than any QB of a paycheck team playing in JHS?
  • 1:45 in 1st, NM LB hit Brown in the facemask, hard and with the crown of his helmet, after he handed the ball off. Could have easily been targeting, and you could hear the pop on TV.
This team looks like what it is – a bunch of 4 and 5 star young guys and a bunch of 3 and low 4 star upperclassmen. As much as people want to draw conclusions now – really won’t see the full talent reset for 2 more recruiting classes. The Jr and Sr class is mostly mid-tier ACC, or just outright missing.
