With a double digit lead in the first half, it looked like we might run away with this one. Thanks to foul trouble and Florida playing pretty tough, this turned into a battle. When UF cut it to 1 with 8 to play, most teams would have been rattled after blowing a lead. Not our guys. They answered the bell and went on a run to close it out. 12 point win ends up making this look like a comfortable W for anyone who wasn't tuned in. A lot of that strength down the stretch is our incredible depth. When Florida was gassed late, our guys were still fresh and playing full speed. That is going to be a huge advantage for us during the long grind of the conference season. This team is built to win championships. (yes, plural)
Monster game from KD after struggling on offense lately. 23 points and he was the closer late when we needed tough buckets and big 3 to maintain our lead. The fact we've been as good as we have been lately despite KD not being a leading scorer speaks to the incredible nature of this team. On most any other team, KD would be the lead guy the team lived and died by. Our ceiling is highest when he's playing like he did tonight so let's hope this is a start of another great run of games for him. To get a W on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, KD playing like he did tonight will be a huge part of it. As great as KD was tonight scoring, one of his best plays of the night was his insane half court oop assist to Devan.
Awesome game from Jaylin tonight. When our other front court guys were in foul trouble, Jaylin stepped up and carried the load. What an incredible luxury to have a weapon like Jaylin on the bench ready to step up like this when we need him. 14 points on only 1 missed shot is about as efficient a night as we are ever going to get.
Probably a first for me to highlight a guy who didn't score a point, but Dylan was a huge factor tonight despite not getting a bucket. With Walker and Jabari in foul trouble, Dylan came in to battle in the paint and made a big contribution with 7 boards, 2 blocks, an assist and a steal. It speaks volumes about the incredible job Bruce and our staff are doing to motivate our back end rotation guys so that they are ready to step up huge like this when we need them. This won't be the last time we have guys in foul trouble and are facing an opposing big where we need Dylan to come in and play quality minutes and help us get a W.
This won't be our easiest or prettiest win of the year, but I think we learned a lot about our team today. Jabari and Walker both got into foul trouble and were limited to well under their normal minutes. This team has so many weapons that we can afford to have our two best players on the bench for long stretches and still take a good team's best shot and win by 12. I just don't know how other teams game plan for a team that can beat you so many different ways. As Jon Rothstein and some other experts have said in the last week, that's why we are team with Final 4 upside. Now on to Tuscaloosa where our guys can cement themselves as the clear cut favorite to win the SEC regular season title with a huge road win.
