Press release...

Former Auburn pitcher Grant Dayton had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday and will be in uniform as the club closes a three-game series with Washington.

Dayton is the 47th player in Auburn history to play in Major League Baseball.

Dayton has enjoyed a strong 2016 season in the minors. Pitching at two levels, he holds a 5-2 record with a 2.44 ERA in 35 games out of the bullpen. In 48.0 innings, Dayton has recorded 85 strikeouts and just 10 walks. In 23 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, the left-hander has 57 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.

A native of Huntsville, Ala., Dayton was an integral part of the Auburn pitching rotation from 2008-10. After redshirting his first year on campus in 2007, he finished 2008 with a 7-2 record and a 3.89 ERA, including a 12 strikeout performance against Mississippi State, which at the time was the highest by an Auburn pitcher since 2002.

Following a 2-6 sophomore season, Dayton rebounded with a superb junior season that landed him on the All-SEC Team. He helped lead Auburn to a NCAA Regional berth and posted an 8-3 record (7-1 SEC) with a 4.36 ERA and a team-best 69 strikeouts.
