Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2022 MLB Draft begins tonight at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN and MLB Network. Rounds 3-10 will be Monday beginning at 1 p.m. and 11-20 Tuesday at 1 p.m.
RHP Blake Burkhalter is Auburn's top draft prospect and a possibility to be taken tonight. He had 16 saves last season, the second-most in AU single-season history.
Other current players to watch in the draft include 1B Sonny DiChiara, RHP Mason Barnett and RHP Trace Bright. All thee have eligibility left and could opt to return if they're not offered enough money. Bright is probably the one most on the fence. A number of other players could be drafted, sign a free agent contract or opt to return including OF Bobby Peirce, OF Kason Howell, 3B Blake Rambusch, SS Brody Moore, C Nate LaRue and LHP Carson Skipper. At this time, I'm expecting Peirce, Howell, Rambusch, LaRue and maybe Bright back. We'll see on the rest.
The four signees to keep an eye on are C Ike Irish, LHP Zach Crotchfelt, RHP Hayden Murphy and OF Chris Stanfield. Irish should be the first signee off the board and is likely to choose MLB. The rest are wait and see.
