What are some Military Capabilities you would like to see say 10-30 years? I have a lot longer list but time and laziness got the better of me.
1. Multiple missile defense programs that intercept during the boost phase. They were either killed or gutted by Obama. If you can do that our hit-to-kill success ratio will shoot up, and give you a legitimate deterrent at hypersonic missiles
ie hit'em while they are being boosted by a rocket.
2. Every precision munitions type from Missile defense down to precision Artillery start using Muitple Kill Vehicle. One of the reasons is China controls 90% of the rare earth metals needed to make such things. Specifically the guidance system for example.
You also get more opportunities for intercept, impact, etc per shot
This can and will help against sophisticated countermeasures that we can't currently beat.
3. Artillery and Artillery Defense
We have the CRAM but need a true shield for all forward-deployed troops. CRAM is close and it almost allows us to do something that had never happened in military history.
Are Artillery is mostly outdated and some of the new stuff relies too heavily on expensive munitions. Yes, precision Artillery has its place but depending on who we are at war with it may be a luxury we won't have to waste resources on.
4. A closed network. Right now we use various TELCOs infrastructures and ride the same lines as everyone else does. On the high side, we deploy things such as taclanes on type 1 encryption devices. The problem is you gather enough low-side information you can get what's needed in most instances to reverse engineer or design offensive capabilities at potential weaknesses. I would force anyone on a defense contract to use the private network and be completely off the internet. They can set up a different station for the interwebs. This could potentially cause a war and would cripple Chinese defense efforts. They would have to rely mostly on human Intel at that time
I'd also add something like a 5g Starlink capability. It would vastly improve what active fighters/planes/satellites/Sensors etc could transmit
If we lose #5 , this would be huge firewall while we catchup. Wouldn't help deployed systems but it would keep our secrets safe. We also got enforce a document control paradigm. No way to make thumb drives, cd's etc. For users are administrators. Force through a controlled library where things are tracked, signed for and routinely destroyed. This is done in some places but it's not standard . Expensive.
5. Quantum Supremecy - we need to go heavy and hard into Quantum computing. 1st it would make the current technology used for the internet, banking, etc obsolete. The country that obtains this will be able to lock EVERYONE out while being able to access ANYONE else's data with zero effort. There would be no way other than being physically disconnected you could protect your data. Impunity was the word I was looking for. The winner of this will be able to access everyone else's data with impunity
5. Low cost drones and the beginning stages for an autonomous, robotic army
6. Automnius mobile supply vehicles kind the same as above but this could be deployed in the next 20-30 years. Most of the military is in fact support/supply chain. Getting supplies to forward operating troops with no potential of casualties greatly changes the landscape of any battle.
7. Personal directed energy weapons. Why? Mainly I like Star Wars
8. Active camaflouge ie invisibility cloak. Also blocks thermal signatures . You combine that with a defense shield (from Artillery &missiles)and your forward operating troops can not be stopped. It combined with autonomous supply delivery would allow you to make tactical moves general's currently only dream about
9. Navy. (Probably #1 in importance). This encompasses so much stuff like missiles defense, air superiority, subs, ground troops etc. Also drones that can easily operate below, above water, and that can fly.
We will go to war with China, our Navy will either win that war or lose it. That simple.
