I don't pretend to know the answer. But it's what he'll need to do. Think it's clear the staff will not make the same mistake twice, and actually go after a transfer.
This team has a winning record with a mediocre QB. Like, Sean White (assuming he doesn't get injured) I think is a perfect example. He would have this team winning most of these close games. An elite QB would be even better of course. But the point is even just average would have Auburn winning a lot more games.
I am not blaming Thorne per say, because Freeze is the one that did not go after a transfer. Thorne plays to the best of his ability, but unfortunately he is just not a very good QB. Don't give AF what any stat nerd says, anyone actually watching these games can see Thorne routinely miss easy completions. And just constantly screw up when it matters. He is the opposite of a big play QB. He never makes big plays when it actually matters. And often makes game losing mistakes when Auburn can't afford it (pick six against Oklahoma).
And yes, there are other problems too. OL needs to get better too. The kicker is ass. But every team, even good ones, has issues. The thing holding this program back the most is the QB room right now.
Side note, surprised we haven't seen more of Brown. I know he played terrible against Arky, but Thorne has also played pretty terrible at times. Just surprised we haven't seen him worked in more. He did complete plenty of easy open passes, that's something Thorne failed a lot of today.
