I’m just a nobody who knows somebody that knows everybody.
Here are my thoughts after watching the game and reading some outlandish posts.
Transfer portal:
Accept reality. Majority of players in the transfer portal are either not happy with playing time (there’s a reason for that) or a recruit who was overlooked in high school and looking for a shot at a bigger college from a smaller college (For example Hooks, FAIRWEATHER, and etc.) Keyword “MAJORITY”
Transfer portal is not full of talent like Caleb Williams. If there is talent like that on the portal you have to go “all in” for it.
I understand we recruited a high ranking “transfer” portal class, but the biggest transfers were the Oline guys. I’ll argue Oline is not a plug and play like many positions. These guys need time to know each other. Time is not 6 months.
Unfortunately, looks like we are going to be in the same position next year.
Play calling:
@FIG-JAM asked for my opinion on the offense. One of the statements I made is this RPO is head banging. I think that statement stands true. Also, this offense presents opportunities to score and yet here we go again struggling with QB play. It’s amazing how everybody and their momma was concern about defense, yet here we are… it’s offense AGAIN, particularly QB. At this point it doesn’t matter how good the rushing game is if we can’t throw to open WRs than it going to be a long day. I think the clock continuously running is effecting college fb more than we realize. It sure affects play calling. We can’t use our rushing game like in the past. Yes, we are going down the field, but when you blink next thing you know it 5 mins left in the game and your down two scores still. This is why it crucial for us to hit our open WRs. Idk what Throne problems are. Dude plays like a freshman and at the end of the day we can’t baby him like a freshman. He being paid like a veteran QB and he needs to start acting like one. I’m all about see what a QB can do under pressure, so if throwing Holden to the wolves is it than so be it. Pressure busts pipes, yet it makes diamonds too.
I’ll never understand why put a QB in a RPO play 3rd and long. If the defense blitz’s there no time for him to make a decision. The man has three things going on in his head. It setting him up for failure. About time he fakes the handoff, decides if he wants to run or not, and looking downfield for an open recover the dline is in his face.
