Bunker Bros and Sisters, I thank you for all the outstanding opinion and commentary. Worth much more than any college prep publication.
Original question:
My kid will be a H.S. senior next year and it's looking like he will qualify for a merit scholarship. He got a 31(ACT) on his first try. Auburn has already told me he will qualify for their Founder's scholarship, and possibly more. So I'm torn. I graduated from AU and would love for my son too. I know the Engineering program is pretty good and one of the Associate Professors told us they can't graduate students fast enough to meet the demand. The classrooms are state of the art. We are getting literature from all kinds of schools. What other engineering (electrical or computer) programs should we consider and how much of a difference does it make in your career, if any, if you have an AU degree versus University "X"?
