A few years back I noticed that there appeared to be a curve in vertical lines on my computer screen (I do a lot of CAD and graphics). Only took me a few minutes to determine it was my right eye only.
During my next annual visit to my optometrist I mentioned this to him so he examined more closely and diagnosed me with wet AMD (macular degeneration). It didn't take too long before those curved lines actually turned into eyesight loss in the center of my right eye and each year it has gotten progressively worse. It is to the point now that if I use my right eye only I can no longer detect human faces, oncoming vehicles, etc. Obviously I do not use my right eye only but just test it ever so often.
Left eye is fine. No loss there yet. Anyhow, treatments have developed over the past few years that "can possibly" help but from what I understand there is no real cure and it will continue to get worse and if it ever begins to occur in my left eye I can possibly be declared as legally blind.
I am a software developer and many times a day I have to close my right eye due to dropped letters or words on the screen. With both eyes open I do have loss of eyesight, so closing my right eye fixes that but eyesight in one eye is far less than with both. It is aggravating and worrisome. I also do a lot of woodworking as a hobby and it presents difficulties there as well. Simple thing such as reading a measuring tape has become a challenge.
Do any of you other Bunks suffer from this problem? If so, how do you handle it and has anyone tried the shots? I have read where there are shots that one could get to help improve the eyesight, but they are not 100% guaranteed to help and can cause great pain at times.
I am 66 years old and want to continue working for another 2 or 3 years, but at the rate that my right eyesight is decreasing, not sure I will be able to, especially if this starts happening to my left eye.
Would love to hear from others that may have wet AMD. Thanks!
