We spoke to the offensive assistant this afternoon. Here's a summary from Derrick Nix...
** Running game is doing well, in zone scheme and gap schemes. We are getting a good push from OL right now.
** Has won over his daughter. Enjoyed spring game and getting to know all the recruits at Big Cat. She’s all Auburn and goes around the house signing the fight song.
** Outside receivers need to have a mindset that when the ball’s in the air, it’s mine.
** Our RB’s can do some things in a passing game.
** Jarquez Hunter brings leadership and work ethic. He’s always trying to please and looking to improve.
** Payton Thorne is operating the offense at a high level. He’s executing on the field and looks totally confident. He’s getting us in the right checks.
** Damari Alston is excellent between the tackles and on the edge. He catches the ball well. He and Jarquez do a lot of things well.
** Recruiting to Auburn is “everything he’s dreamed of … there’s a lot to sell here.” We’re getting the right guys.
** Challenging our guys to make explosive plays. It’s the standard, it’s expected and it’s needed for our offense to thrive.
** Grew up an Auburn fan. Being here and being a part of this now has been awesome.
** The offense has been explosive this fall and more consistent.
** Cam Coleman is a guy that can be open even when he’s covered.
** Perry Thompson ultra talented, tremendous size and speed. All the tools are there for him, just needs more time and experience.
** Malcolm Simmons is fast and fearless. Very pleased with what I’ve seen from him. Going to be a good player.
** Relationships are even more important in this era of college football. Being transparent and open is vitally important.
