We still believe Chris Kiffin has a chance to be the Tigers’ next defensive coordinator. However, we’re starting to believe that significant time has passed since his interview with Freeze (Tuesday) and that he’s leaning toward NFL opportunities.
So with that in mind: We now believe the most likely scenario — barring a professional commitment from Chris Kiffin — is that Freeze “elevates” Charles Kelly to full-time defensive coordinator and Freeze then hires a young, energetic assistant to work with linebackers. This person also must be a very strong recruiter. We have a name here, but I want to vet this person a bit before revealing the name. It’s someone who has worked at Auburn previously.
So that‘s the latest. We still expect things to go down this coming week — one way or the other.
