We all know Dameyune Craig was a fine quarterback, but no Auburn quarterback, not even Cam Newton, was better at producing massive numbers through the air.

Craig, a graduate of Blount High in Mobile, holds the Auburn record for Most 300-Yard Passing Games with six. (Pat Sullivan, noted signal-caller, finished with five.) The best of those games? I'd go with Mississippi State '96, which saw Craig go 28-of-41 for 394 yards, four TDs and zero interceptions in a 41-15 win in Starville. That yardage was a school record at the time.

The momentum didn't last. Auburn played top-ranked (and eventual national champion) Florida the next weekend and Craig said the Gators' defense, although very good from a statistical standpoint, hadn't been tested up to that point.

Craig finished 7-of-28 for 82 yards in Gainesville. He was sacked seven times and intercepted twice in a 51-10 loss.

Now I know why he's so reserved when speaking with reporters on the record.

ON THIS DATE: Auburn is 4-0 in games played on Sept. 7. That group includes victories over Southwestern Louisiana ('85), Fresno State ('96), Western Carolina ('02) and Arkansas State in 2013.

You statheads know the significance of that date against Southwestern Louisiana. That's the game where Bo Jackson rushed for 206 yards (and 3 TDs) on 10 carries during the first half. He gave way to Brent Fullwood during the early stages of the third quarter after scoring on 12-yard run that pushed Auburn ahead 42-0. Fullwood didn't take it easy on 'em; he finished with 173 yards on 11 carries. So that's two Auburn Top 60 rushing games ... on the same day.

Here are the video highlights plus an interview with Bo Jackson.

Happy (belated) Birthday to former linebacker Ken Bernich, who turned 64 on Sunday. He was an All-America pick in 1974, when he was the Tigers' second-leading tackler with 94 stops. He led Auburn in tackles both as a sophomore ('72) and junior ('73).

Also, Happy (belated) Birthday to former baseball coach John Pawlowski, who turned 52 on Sunday. He lasted five mostly mediocre seasons at Auburn. His 2010 team was a juggernaut, though, going 20-10 in league play to capture the Western Division title. That team lost twice to Clemson during the 2010 Auburn Regional; a tough blow considering Pawlowski played and coached at Clemson.

That series did produce this gem, which is awesome.
