readin threads from earlier this week, i came to the realization that some of this fambly dont know what a RPO is!! some prominent posters actually think we ran "MOSTLY RPO" stuff last weekend
so lets take a look at "HOW TO RECOGNIZE A RPO"
#1.) RUN BLOCKIN
for the "RUNNIN OPTION" of an rpo you need some blockers up there to create lanes
you dont necessarily need pass blockin to pass. only time pass blockin leads to a run is like a draw
so first step should be "are tha OL blockin for a ball carrier"
#2.) PASS CATCHERS
next step is "are there wide receivers tryin to catch tha ball"
again you need "passin options" in an RPO
then finally you need
#3.) A READ
it could be a "pre snap" or a "post snap" read but tha qb gotta look at the defense
this is the tuffest one to find out cause you cant read the qbs mind unless youre professor X/ @DavistonTiger
usin these 3 criteria- auburn ran an RPO this many times
DRIVE 1- 1/3 rpo (1st down play- misread, shoulda passed to VALDO)
DRIVE 2- 4/7 (1. good run by jarquez, 2. good run by jarquez, good read 3. good run by jarquez 4. good run by alston the others were straight run, pitch, pass. no rpo)
DRIVE 3 3/10 (4. nice quick pass to hooks, good read 5. good run by battie, good read (holding). not a hold, good run by battie 6. dump off to valdo)
DRIVE 4 1/5 (2. battie stuffed)
DRIVE 5 1/8 (6. battie nice gain)
2nd half
DRIVE 1 1/3 (1. loss of a yard jarqeuz. somethin happened on the read think thorne wanted to keep and jarquez pulled it.)
DRIVE 2 1/3 robbys turn (1. 1yd gain cobb)
DRIVE 3 2/3 (1. 3yard gain robby 2. 1 yard loss jarquez)
DRIVE 4 0/3 (robby dropback, robby straight run, thorne cant get checkdown/rusher bats it down)
DRIVE 5 2/10 (2. good run by jarquez 5. nice read by robby got the first down to valdo)
DRIVE 6 2/10 goldy holdy in there (5. 3yard loss to hooks. think this is a bad read by holden. 3 defenders on that side against 1 blocker + receiver. would rather give battie a shot at getting 1st down 6. big run by jackson)
so that totals up tooooooooooo 18/65 plays bein rpo usin tha CROCKY POO'S INFALLIABLE GUIDE TO RPO
SOME THING IVE NOTICED
- only 1 negative play on the RPOs with thorne in the game (first play of the game) maybe 2 if you count the holding call on britton which wasnt a hold. a lotta the sacks were when he dropped back normally IMO THATS INTERESTIN @ricedp105
-also i think the amount of RPO plays drop off when battie gets more snaps.
-a lotta ROBBY'S reads (about half) dont got passin options. idk if thay really count as RPOs if everyones runblockin
-i dont think holden would be a great option at runnini the RPO stuff. he dont really read the defenders to make decisions (this is based on 2 play sample size)
-i think that 2nd drive was lookin good right up until the reversed fumble play. it also featured our most RPOs with thorne in the game
heres the game replay if you want to watch this travesty again and correct my mistakes
