Always interesting when a team gashes its opponent for 470 total yards as NMSU did at home vs UMass and finds a way to lose.
The Aggies coughed up 3 turnovers to the Minutemen’s 0. That’ll get you got.
So if the Aggies’ attack vs UMass’s porous defense is a fair predictor, the Tigers have a chance to amass 500+ total yards this Saturday if their execution is ahead of schedule. It will be by ground, may take a few series to get the passing game working.
So look for Montgomery and Hugh’s plan to be 65% run heavy to lay that key foundation (it’s got to be “who we are” at least through 5-6 games) and set up that film tendency for aTm’s planning for the Sep 23rd game.
So I’ll go 350+ on the ground maybe 200 by air for AU in our opener.
- NMSU had no trouble running the ball. 38 totes for 222 yards, whopping 5.5 ypc average. Oh Lawd when PM unleashes our RBs downhill behind our roadgrader Oline.
- NMSU also had no trouble passing the ball. 16/27 (59%), 248 yards. 9.2 yards per attempt. Target rich environment for Payton, the WRs and TE’s.
So 470 total yards surrendered by head coach Don “Dr. Blitz” Brown’s UMass defense.
UMass also had 8 penalties for 69 yards.
Odd that the recycled Clem and Ga Tech QB, Taison Phommachanh was UMass’s leading rusher with 17 carries for 96 yards.
What say ye, coaches? I’ll lay the 35. Vegas is teasing you to take UMass. Ron Roberts dials up major “havoc” this Saturday. Feeling good off the first road win in a LONG time for UMass will add up to “overconfidence” for Phommachahn, and he’ll **** around and find out first half that he’s playing against an elite secondary (not NMSU), with “enough” havoc and early down blitzes from our front to cause major problems and a defensive score or two.
Freeze era off with a bang.
