Many remember or know that Shug coached more football victories than any other Auburn coach. His greatest victory may have been surviving five beach landings in WWII including Normandy. As a combat engineer Shug was gonna be in the first wave cause those guys had to blow up the beach obstacles. Shug could have opted out of combat service and coached stateside in the services as a successful head bball coach (at Auburn of all places). Instead he voluntered for combat even though he had a wife and small children. A brief account of his service follows. Coach Bryant said it well: "Shug has more courage in his little finger than I have in my entire body." https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.co...ped-gain-bigger-victory-shug-jordan/10052535/
