I’m not an experienced mechanic by any means, but I’ve done a lot of routine/scheduled maintenance on my truck with the help of YouTube. Plugs/wires, oil/filter change, fluid and gasket change on front dif, rear dif, transfer case, changed 02 sensors, etc…
Next project I’m wanting to tackle is a transmission flush. I have a 2013 GMC Sierra 4x4 with the 5.3L 6L80 transmission. It’s got 145,000 miles. I’ve had the truck since 45,000. She’s been well cared for and treated right. My owners manual says transmission fluid and filter change at 100,000 miles.
I’ve talked to a few folks who are mechanically inclined and I’ve had mixed answers. One half says you shouldn’t change transmission fluid if it’s high mileage and the fluid hasn’t been changed regularly in the life of the vehicle.
The other half says that’s just a myth and you should change it. That the old fluid has lost a lot of its lubricity.
Everything I’ve read online is literally split 50/50 on it. I want to make this truck last another 100,000+ miles. These new truck prices are just ridiculous IMO.
Any suggestions, experiences, and wisdom would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
