We’re about to talk to Coach Caddy. I’ll have updates in here.
He’s here:
- “First of all, I’m proud of these seniors - 24 seniors. A lot of these guys last time to put on pads. Whether it’s college or professional, I know how tough that can be.”
- “Proud of the players, this staff, the support staff.”
- “Through this process it made me a better person, father, husband, friends.”
- “It’s powerful what you can do when you get people believing.”
- Talked about how he’s seen kids start believing again in these four weeks he’s been coach.
- Mentioned that 12 kids gave their life to Christ while he’s been coach.
- “We didn’t get it done… I ain’t do a good enough job to get those guys prepared. I honestly feel that way. I had a group of men and this staff, we didn’t do a good enough job of getting these guys prepared.”
- Mentioned how there were lots of penalties and errors
- On the response he’s gotten from fans and Auburn people in general: “It means everything… I already feel indebted to (Auburn) because it gave me the chance to accomplish my dreams.”
- “The Auburn family - the people, it’s the reason two decades ago I chose Auburn. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. These past four weeks have been special… Auburn is in a better place because of these seniors and the Auburn family. The future is bright.”
- On the Keionte “fumble”: “it’s not like NFL, you can’t get fined, can you?”
- Said that the refs have a tough job, but ended with “let’s just say I had a front row seat there.”
- On the players: “They done changed my life for the good.”
- “They revealed some things about myself that I didn’t know were there.”
- On Robby: “That guy’s a fighter. He’s gonna compete. He’s gonna give you everything he has… one of the best athletes I’ve ever been around.”
- More: “He was trying to will us to that win.”
- Quez and Tank: “Like I told them guys, ‘they’re gonna have to be special.’”
- Said when he took the interim job, he sat down with his backs and told them they’d have to be that “spark plug.”
- More on the backs: “the team is gonna go as you go.”
- Quez’s finish to the season: “Let me tell you something: I pray my two boys copy his attitude. That young man is special.”
- Another Iron Bowl for Caddy: “It means a lot. I grew up always wanting to play in this game - dreamed about it, visualized it, spoke it into existence.”
- Did some Iron Bowl research: “If Google wrong, talk to Google.”
- He mentioned that the Iron Bowl first started in 1893 and to be the first black coach in the history of the series almost “broke him down” last night. Said he shared that with his players. Called it “special.” Said that no one can ever take that from him.
- “Lot of things in life, if you can see it then you can strive for it.”
- What will he take away the most from this interim experience: “ long pause before saying: “Honestly, the kids, how they have responded. I mean, If you all only knew a lot of the stuff that been going - I ain’t blaming nobody, I’m part of this staff. Guys not going to class, but to see how guys have turned that around. Guys are in class, treating people with respect.”
- Mentioned that people came up and said that his players were like “different kids.”
- Second thing: “The one thing I took away from this ordeal is that you can be different and be successful… you can go about it where you make it about these kids. Make it about truly changing lives.”
- He started crediting his coaches from pee-wee to high school ball.
- “Regardless of what goes on, I’ve been blessed, I’ve been blessed by Auburn, the Auburn family, these players and staff.”
- “The future is bright and that’s not because of me but because of these 24 seniors. They have left Auburn better than they found it.”
That’s all for Caddy.
