Butch Thompson is meeting with the media Thursday afternoon to preview this weekend's series against Ole Miss at Plainsman Park...
** Bobby Peirce and Ike Irish participated in a scrimmage Tuesday. Irish is likely to play as a DH this weekend. Peirce had two at-bats but did not play in the field Tuesday. Peirce is day-to-day going into this weekend.
** Mason Maners was a little rusty in his return from a hand injury last weekend. Hoping he's be sharper against Ole Miss. Will monitor him closely.
** Good to be back home after two weeks on the road. We have a chance to reach the SEC tournament but we need to play or best baseball down the stretch.
** Playing Ole Miss and Missouri, which are directly ahead of AU in the SEC standings, gives AU a legit shot.
** Auburn's pitching staff has given us a chance to be successful in the last two series. Our pitching went from non-competitive to competitive.
** Injuries have setback lineup and the hitting has struggled as the pitching has gotten better. Need to get both going at the same time.
** Butch considers this Auburn's postseason, which started a couple of weeks ago. They have to play way above average to make it to Hoover and keep playing.
** Dylan Watts looked like a starter last weekend instead of a reliever forced into a starting role. Making progress and developing. He has three pitches going in fastball, slider, change.
*****THAT'S ALL*****
