Auburn coach Bryan Harsin is speaking to the media for his weekly press conference. Click refresh, will continue to update...
** New week, new opportunity. Iron Bowl week, focus is on Alabama.
** Guys came back Sunday, learned from South Carolina game and applying it to improving this week. Same thing we try to do every week.
** This is an opportunity for seniors playing final game at Jordan-Hare against a good football team. Alabama is a good team, extremely well coached. Bryce Young, watched him in high school, great player, has improved through this season. The offense is doing a lot of things that are tough to defend. He's going through their personnel...
** Extremely good front 7 on defense, backend moves well. They tackle extremely well. Going through personnel again.
** The challenge for us is to play well on offense and defense, eliminate mistakes and play our game. They're good on special teams too.
** Schedule will be a little different during Thanksgiving week. Guys will have opportunity to spend time with their families.
** Excited to coach in this game. This is one of the reasons I wanted to be at Auburn. It's one that everybody knows who's playing in it. The message to our team is we have to do things better than we did the week before. That's been the message every week. We can talk about it but we've got to go out there and do it.
*****His opening and answer to first question on message to team has been nearly 10 minutes*****
** He mentioned the first question to him after his opening press conference on Christmas Eve was about the Iron Bowl and that stuck with him.
** T.J. Finley was solid against USC. Things we need to correct in there. All the players need to be intense and have that sense of urgency.
** Don't want to give any QB an extended about of time to deliver the ball (LOL). You need to disrupt. Bryce Young is good at sitting in the pocket and delivering balls accurately as he's taking hits. Got to play good defense and be in the right position. They have a lot of weapons.
** On kickers, we just need to be consistent with out specialists. Expect Ben Patton to be better this week. May see some of Evan McGuire this week, maybe on kickoffs.
** There's been some moments when we've had some fall apart drives. We need to be clutch and overcome any problems early in the game. It comes down to the 2nd half and finishing. It's four quarters of football. We're not doing that. We're not finishing. Not getting off field on 3rd down. Not taking advantage of field position. Coaches, players, you've got to compete, put yourself in a chance to win the game in the 4th.
** On kickoff coverage has been good, but Jameson Williams has returned two for TD's: Hopefully we can get our kickoffs deeper. Jarquez Hunter did a good job getting down there and getting a tackle last week. Got to do a better job of catching punts and getting positive yards.
** South Carolina tried to take TE's away from offense. Also had something to do with the situations we were in and running the ball well. Didn't go into the game not wanting to target the TEs. They're always part of the game plan, just didn't have an opportunity for them in last game. A little bit of us, a little bit of USC and a little bit of flow of the game. There were opportunities for us, just didn't take advantage.
*****THAT'S ALL*****
