Everyone seems to be giving him credit for going after the coach they were never going to get. There was a huge risk for doing that and now they are going to pay the price. Anyone could have gone after Marshall. A smart AD would have seen that he wasn't coming and gone after Ben Howland. If you don't want Howland, then you pull out the stops to get Hurley or Michael White and win the press conference and take some momentum into next year. But they aren't good at facing reality. Marshall was a fantasy and their pride got the better of them. It was a gamble any AD could take, but not a smart one. I can't figure why he's being praised for it.
Now the coaches that should have been their top candidates are either off the board or not interested in being plan B. And the guy they're going to get will be overpaid and facing a tougher job in getting their apathetic fan base excited after the Marshall letdown. It's a great day for Auburn hoops recruiting in this state.
