Beach Recommendations (near Tampa)

My son has a baseball camp in Lakeland, FL June 10 - 21. I am looking for a beach location for a family vacation for the second week. My son would drive to Lakeland M-F 8:00 - 12:00 camp.

I would like a place on the beach and about an 60 - 75 minute drive. Ex. Clearwater. Anyone have experience in that area for beach stays? Thoughts?
