Not trying to be too negative here, but over the last SIX recruiting classes (2018-2023), we really haven’t seen the level of recruiting that we saw prior to that IMO, and it’s a tad concerning.

Here are the (5) PRO’s we signed, all of which we only got to enjoy for one year:

1.) Isaac Okoro
2.) JT Thor
3.) Sharife Cooper (13 games or about 100 too few)
4.) Walker Kessler
5.) Jabari Smith

Here are the (8) poor evals/weak signees/guys that have moved on because they couldn’t play at a high SEC level:

1.) Babatunde Akingbola
2.) Jovon Franklin
3.) Devan Cambridge
4.) Tyrell Jones
5.) Justin Powell
6.) Zep Jasper
7.) Yohan Traore
8.) Chance Westry

What’s left, the (9) guys remaining on the team:

1.) Al Flanigan (5th year)
2.) Jaylin Williams (5th year)
3.) Dylan Cardwell (4th year)
4.) Johni Broome (4th year)
5.) Tre Donaldson (2nd year)
6.) Aden Holloway (1st year)

Need upgrading (and should be a part of list #2 above):

7.) Chris Moore (4th year)
8.) Wendell Green (4th year)
9.) KD Johnson (4th year)

The issue to me isn’t simply the team next year but rather what kind of ROSTER MANAGEMENT for the future are we looking at. Otherwise we’re looking at 3 maybe only 2 year rebuild from this junk team we just saw through. Certainly there’s a higher level of turnover year to year than ever before, but this is starting to feel too much like our OLine recruiting of the last 10 years prior to Freeze.

Pretty simple solution - need to recruit better. We’re not developing anything in the front court whatsoever for the future and the Gs we’ve been getting are mostly limited (not talking necessarily about Aden, Tahaad, Philon). Plenty of PT there for anyone that comes in over next 3 seasons across this entire roster IYAM. We need talent upgrades as well as developing bodies across the board. Over the last 4 classes we only have 4 guys remaining on the team that were signed out of the HS ranks (Cardwell, CMO, Tre, and Aden).

We’re left with must have port hole success this off-season and next to rebalance the roster.

I think the overall point is that as the league continues to make leaps 1-16, we must up our game as well. That means signing better players more consistently, more frequently. Never too late to get (back to) moving.
