When asked how long he had owned his favorite sportscoat, my grandfather replied "long enough for it to go in and out of style three times."
I've been an Auburn fan long enough to too often times see Auburn in much the same light. The high highs and the low lows that only a "Dye hard" Auburn fan can understand. It sure feels like the wave for Auburn is building with Coach Hugh Freeze at the helm. I'm looking forward to the ride. Here's hoping it's a sustained run.
Flipping a 5 star LB from UGA was pretty dang sweet last week, but not even the most optimistic Auburn fan (@ricedp105 ) would have been bold enough to predict that Freeze and Co. would flip a 5 star WR from Bama in the same week. Don't lose site of Malcolm Simmons' commitment either.
The efforts of the staff last week were felt almost immediately over at @On To Victory with subs pouring in in support.
I'll be moving one of my children back to college on Thursday. I don't need to look at the forecast to know what it will be. One of the hottest days of the year. Death, taxes, and heat on move in day.
Speaking of the heat, it dawned on me today I need to do something nice for my UPS driver. He always has a smile and a handshake when he greets me. It has be be brutal this time of year in that brown truck with that brown uniform on.
It's time now for fall camp and what matters on the field will go a long way to holding on to these Summer commits not to mention hopefully turning the heads of some young men pledged to other schools. Auburn must put an interesting and fun product on the field. When was the last time Auburn football was fun albeit for a three week mirage in 2017?
I never played football beyond my senior year of high school. All these years later I can still remember the feeling in my stomach the night before the start of two-a-days and the dread of the August heat and conditioning. Crazy to think that a conditioning test at any college these days would be a complete waste of time. Most of the Freshmen have been in a college weight room several weeks if not several months prior to stepping on that field. Most have never even been through a traditional two-a-day. I guess that's for the better, but it sure did form a bond with some of my teammates that are my best friends to this day.
Having just taken my wife on vacation to the Abacos in June for her birthday and having multiple cocktails at Grabbers the story of the murder plot involving two Auburn alums is fascinating to me. Like @BrianStultz looking at Angela Lansbury in a cocktail gown, it has grabbed my attention.
Scott Foxhall's return to Auburn is massive to the program and to Butch Thompson's ultimate goal of winning a title. I didn't see that move coming after the addition of Everett Teaford.
On the hardwood, it appears the summer of Freeze on the Plains has distracted even the most ardent AU hoops fan from discussing lAUrd Bruce's 23-24 squad. I'd bet a dollar to a Daylight Donut that is just fine with the head coach. I think they will field a very competitive team night in and night out.
The major league trade deadline is just three hours away. I've always enjoyed following along to see who's a buyer and who's a seller.
The older I get the easier it is for things to make me sentimental or emotional. On Saturday I'll get to watch my middle child become the 3rd of my crew to graduate from college and the 2nd to become an Auburn Alum. I've already got a lump in my throat knowing how proud of her I'll be. Congrats to all the other dads who will be watching theirs do the same.
Until next time, be kind. Always.
