Well Bunk, as of now both sides have hunkered down (lawyered up) and are preparing for what’s going to happen next. The Auburn Administration has continued to interview players, coaches, and other support staff around the program to get a feel for what really has taken place over the last 14 months, and I have not the slightest clue what information has been gleaned from those conversations. The scenario that I will lay out now is purely speculation as to what my gut tells me as to how this situation will play out over the next few weeks.
1. By middle of next week Coach Harsin and Auburn will enter settlement discussions, and after some back forth Auburn will end up agreeing to pay CBH around 12 million (down from the 18.5 he would be owed for an out right firing) and Auburn will issue a strong statement that no personal, ethical, or morale misconduct transpired during CBH’s tenure, nor was there any finding verbal abuse of players or coaches in and around program. However this is a mutual parting of ways and what’s in the best interest of both the program and Coach Harsin.
2. A coaching search committee will be announced later that same day, headlined by the General, Allen Greene, and 3 other former players or alumni. This will all be for show and the general will have marching orders about who the next hire will be.
3. Hugh Freeze or Jeff Grimes (the 2 candidates I’ve heard the most buzz around to date if there is a change) will be named the next Head Coach within 4 days of the announced search committee.
4. Carnell Williams and Zac Etheridge will be announced as being retained on staff shortly after the new coach arrives. Several other off the field staff members will be retained as well.
5. Once Herm Edwards is fired/resigns at Arizona State (either later this month or next November) CBH will be named the next Head Coach there as his squeaky clean recruiting reputation and offensive background fit’s the narrative of exactly the kind of Head Coach they need to help repair their image within the PAC-12 and college football.
Once again, this is just my opinion as to how this all plays out and is not in any way representative of any definitive information that’s been relayed to me, it is instead what I’d refer to a speculative strawman from someone who’s watched and observed the behavior of the Auburn Administration for 20 plus years. Let me know what you think Bunk, and hope each of you have a great rest of your weekend.
