The past few days I’ve taken a 10,000 ft view of our recruiting operation, and while I’m confused by some things, I do see some potentially very solid commitments on the horizon that can help us win football games in the SEC. That said, a large part of us building some buzz on the trail comes from peer recruiting. Kids working on other kids is almost as important as the coaches themselves working on prospects.

Right now we have two very good players that are working on other guys, but that’s not enough and it’s why we need to land a Micah Pollard, Caden Story, Micah Riley-Ducker, Drew Bobo, Jay Fair and a Maxie Baudion so that they can talk to other targets about why Auburn is the place they picked and why you want to be there. Having ten guys in the fold that are now working on other guys would really start to help us with some of our other Blue Chip targets.

It’s likely not to happen until later in the cycle this year if at all, but moving into 2023 we really need to land an alpha dog early that commands respect of other players and catches their attention as to why that player picked Auburn. FSU is doing this with Travis Hunter right now, but in the past Auburn’s best classes have always gotten an alpha in the fold early as someone who can rally the class. Examples of a guy like this are Marlon Davidson in 2016, Owen Papoe and Bo Nix in 2019, Kenny Britt in 2018, Kerryon Johnson in 2015, Tre Williams and Roc Thomas 2014, Carl Lawson in 2013, Reese Dismukes in 2011, Trovon Reed & Michael Dyer in 2010 and the list goes on. Getting an alpha in the fold early for the 2023 class is extremely important to that classes success, and I’m hopeful with the large focus we’ve put on 2023 we can start to hone in on a guy like that real soon.
