Glad to see we have resumed our regularly scheduled programming of everybody flipping the switch from anointing the current Auburn HC as Jesus Christ football Superstar to throwing tantrums and pissing and defecating themselves. Can't wait to read the lines of praise for Hew from people calling for his head right now after he beats Bama and lands a top 10 2024 recruiting class.
Was it an incredibly gross loss? Yes. Could brAUther Hew and co. have prepared more effectively and done a better job of coaching/playcalling on game day? Yes. Should Montgomery's employment be terminated immediately following the Iron Bowl's final whistle? Yes. Does this loss have any real and tangible implications moving forward other than a damaged ego? No.
We are seeing the cost of relying on the transfer portal to flip/fill holes in a roster. There are plenty of other examples of this phenomenon across college football as well, i.e. USC. Freezus is a first-year coach attempting to successfully lead a massive rebuild of the entire program and its supporting apparatus, and he is also doing so with a half-baked roster, under the pressure of an extremely condensed timeline, and a fanbase comprised almost entirely of autists (including myself).
The players and coaches are equally at fault for Saturday, but if a humiliating loss to New Mexico State in his first year is the price that must be paid for Hugh to do what is necessary to compete against and beat out elite programs for kids on the high school recruiting trail then so be it. Honestly, I am grateful we are experiencing neither a Malzahn/Bowden flash in the pan first year nor a slow and steady decline in performance on the field and non-existent effort in recruiting off the field like we saw during Haskins first year. This ship is going to rock before it levels out. Please see links provided below for reference.
