FIBArk is the oldest whitewater festival in the country, this is the 70th annual festival. 20,000 people descend on my town of Salida (population 5000) for great music, beer gardens and oh yeah, whitewater competitions.
One of the most popular is the "Hooligan Race," where you make a raft out of anything that floats, dress up like vikings or squirrels or hockey players and sprint down the river.
Last year we added a bike jump into the river that was awesome.
This year I (I'm on the board of directors) added SUP (stand up paddle board) Boxing.
There are a ton of serious championship events too, it's not all debauchery.
I never would have thought 5 years ago after growing up in North Georgia and spending my adult life in Auburn, AL that I would be helping run a whitewater event in Colorado!
Here is the link that inspired the new event.
