Sources at the AFCA convention in Louisville, Ky., confirm that Alabama assistant coach Lance Thompson has spoken with Gus Malzahn regarding the Tigers' coaching vacancy.
Thompson coached with new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp at LSU, where Muschamp handled linebackers and Thompson the defensive line. He later served as recruiting coordinator. Thompson just finished his third season coaching outside linebackers in Tuscaloosa after a stint under Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley at Tennessee.
Malzahn and Muschamp also have interviewed former Nebraska defensive coordinator John Papuchis and former Miami linebackers coach Micheal Barrow.
Barrow remains the Tigers' primary target.
