Gus is clearly going to come under intense pressure -- for good reason. However, I cannot imagine the "powers that be" sacking him even if this year continues to go terribly. The problem is the cumulative bad personnel decisions made by the AD over the last 6 or so years. These have *probably* had the effect of paralyzing AU's ability to move quickly to repair what looks like a bad spot now. My guess, uninformed entirely, is that Gus gets a year-long pass precisely because of the catastrophe that was Chizik. More of the same next year.
