The rationale for the choices was all over the place. Some were chosen for college careers that preceded lackluster professional ones. With others, it was just the opposite. Some made no sense at all.
-I'd take Lawyer Tillman over Tyrone Goodson any day of the week.
-TE would be tough as Reeves wasn't nearly the receiver Lutzenkirchen was, but he wasn't bad and was a steamroller as a blocker.
-Greene made it predominantly on his pro career because he didn't even crack the playing rotation at Auburn until his senior year. Even then, Gerald Robinson not only started over Greene but made All-American before he was done.
-Gatski likewise made it pretty much on his pro career. So if pro careers were weighted that much, then how did Steve Wallace not merit a mention at OT? The same could be said for C Tom Banks.
-LB Mike Kolen's career in college and pros rivaled Carr's. How did he not get a mention?
-Aundray Bruce at LB? Um, he played the same position as Greene and Gerald Robinson when he was on the Plains.
-I understand sentimentality but I don't see how Langner gets a starting nod over Kevin Porter, David King, Corey Barlow, Chris Shelling (who made All-SEC as a CB) or even a lot of guys not on this list. Langner was scrappy, yeah but I don't know if that's enough.
-Mike Fuller was an all-star safety and return man who played for years in the NFL. How is he not in this parade?
-Neil O'Donoghue was an All-American kicker for the Tigers. No nod?
-Where were the punters? Auburn's had some excellent players at that position: David Beverly, Lewis Colbert, Terry Daniel, Steven Clark and Brian Shulman come to mind readily.
