The GOOD:
Most importantly we won the game and though some may want to discount that, a team that learns how to win bad games is much better prepared for future games.
Our RBs look very good to excellent and we have 3 that seem to be SEC ready.
Our Dline did a nice job and may be better than expected. After the Cal TD they stopped the run almost completely.
2.8 ypc average for only 118 total yards.
Our edge players showed great discipline and kept their positions all night and made some great plays.
Asante is a stud and one of those players that seem to be a total disrupter for the other team.
Our punter is a stud. He can flip the field with a kick.
Fairweather is a stud, why did it take so long to go to him ?
The Bad:
Our QB play was way well below par. Not impressed with Thorne's accuracy for this game, though he was credited with 64%, 9/14. He didn't seem to find the outlet pass at all. Doesn't seem to be good at escaping a collapsing pocket. Doesn't run well it seems.
Ashford seemed to be trying to make something happen without being open. He needs a throwing package to keep the defense honest with him, imo.
Our offensive scoring overall was pathetic , probably due to being 4-12 in 3rd down conversions.
Our WRs didn't get open downfield, or at least if they did our QBs didn't see them. 9.4 ypc average for game.
We had 3 lost fumbles and that is not acceptable for most games.
Too many passing plays our OLine collapsed.
7 penalties for 56 yards.
Overall:
After our first real game I would think that HF would/should win the SEC COY if we win 8+ games and believe 6 or 7 is far more realistic.
Our QB play, at this point, just isn't where it needs to be to be a threat to the better teams.
Our Oline might be better but need to rapidly improve. Not sure we can get there through the portal.
