You may recall, AU coming off the sensational 2010 national championship run, and the Ship of Chiz was already taking on water as the 2011 season progressed.

Utah State was the opener in Jordin-Hayer on September 3rd. A TRUE FR by the name of Chuckie Keaton ran all over our a$$e$, we stumbled and bumbled offensively, and you look up and the Aggies are up 38-28 very late 4th quarter.

Finally the boys wake up, have a long drive to make it 38-35 on a Trotter throw to Philip Lutzenkirchen (RIP). With only 2:07 left, Chiz rightly opts for the onside kick, a clever design, and the ball gets a HIGH hop and is grabbed by Emory Blake who continued returning it downfield inside the 30. But by rule, the recovered onsides kick could not be advanced.

AU drives the ball methodically, setting up a go-ahead Michael Dyer TD punched in at the goal line, 42-38 Tigers breathless win and humiliation averted for the Chiz.

BUT, here's the Rrrrrrreeest of the story ($1 to the late Paul Harvey) . . .

That ONE little Awwbern win, by 4 points over the Aggies, singlehandedly ran up the BCS computer points for bammer at season's end, giving the hated crimpson tahd the slightest of computer points to vault them into the BCS National Championship game with Lester's LSU Tigers. The Tahd would win the BCS title game rematch with LSU 21-0, after dropping the regular season game with LSU 9-6. Yep, a single embarrassing loss to Utah State would have cost Saban one of his national championship trophies. And no, I'm not going full LBS wishing AU had lost that Utah State game.
