Defense (A):
-Playing very well, put up a 0 for the first half.
-D is not suffocating but showing the following traits: sound, physical, fast, determined, and opportunistic.
Special Teams (A):
-Carlson (not Carson Vern!) hit a 56 yarder in the 2nd quarter, which would have been good from 60, if not a little more.
-Punting was good enough, needs more distance but hang time was perfect, and good coverage.
-Punt return is yet to be seen, we can catch the ball so that's good, but haven't really had a chance to return anything yet.
-KO coverage has been good, so far all touchbacks.
-KO return = no information as Louisville has yet to KO to Auburn.
Offense (C):
(it may be worth mentioning that the opposing team has very good coaches, and pretty good players, and they've had since the end of last year to scheme and get ready for us. None-the-less who would have thought that the offense would be the poorest performing unit thus far?)
- Offense is out of sync right now. Whether that's a function of Louisville or something else will be determined in the second half.
-Offense was more in sync when Jovon and Peyton started running the ball, but also could be because some of the jitters, rust, et al. was going away by that time. However, Roc didn't really light it up, something to watch in the second half...and yes, all 3 RBs are legit, which is really good to have.
-AU HAS NO DEEP GUY RIGHT NOW. This is one of the biggest developments of the 1st half. Unless Ric Louis does something drastically different starting in the 2nd half this is going to be a huge question mark for the team moving forward. Duke is doing Duke things ($1 to @Jay G. Tate) and the other receivers seem to be fine too, but man do we miss Sammie right now. And unlike someone pointed out on another post earlier, me saying that we have no deep guy is not about how the 2 INTs by JJ were un-catchable, it's about that Ric wasn't even slightly competitive, and plays short. Ric is/was a fine 2nd or 3rd option, but unless something happens there's no way he can be our #1 deep guy.
-JJ is making uncharacteristically bad decisions and throws. There's enough of a book on Jeremy to warrant that statement, he's looked really bad on both the INTs, plus at least one other tip, and his accuracy has not been good (and on the last throw to Ric Louis the throw was high.)
All that being said, Auburn's up 17-0, so overall that's awesome, but in the long term the offense has got to show improvement over how it's playing tonight, and that starts in the 2nd half.
