so sounds like KD and zep will be back based off info from posters on this board. also i think zep will be a starter at SG next year and here ill show why (with @RBU1 's approval of course, he knows more than me on this topic)
at the end ill post top portal prospects as of now based on stats and what i think our roster looks like + concerns
so like last time heres bruce's top SG through his career
2020:
samir mostly played the SG role in 2020 after playing more of a SF role on the 2019 team. he didnt really have elite stats in a particluar category except for drawing fouls. Also he had a high usage rate, decent defensive numbers. most of his 2 point attempts were layups and pretty even split between 2s and 3s. on ething to look for is offensive rating for bruce's SGs, they typically get a lot of touches and they are efficient at scoring
2016-19
so bryce was our main SG most of his auburn career (split time with dunnans for a little while but yea...). main thing that stick out is his growth year over year not just at the 3pt shooting but limiting turnovers, being more efficient on offense, not fouling as much etc. main weaknesses = rebounding and drawing fouls (rebound were mostly covered by wiley and spencer though). one of the main reasons for that is his lack of touches in the paint. bryce shot almost 3 times as many 3s as 2pt attempts. thats gonna lead to less fouls and rebounds by nature. the last thing is his usage from sophomore to junior yearhis stats didnt go up dramatically besides 2pt shooting but he was given more playing time and became a more efficient player because of it.
so SG role so far = low turnovers, great offensive efficiency, perimeter threats
couple of SGs from his tennessee time
2 really good 3pt shooters between lofton and hopson. another thing between these SGs is low foul count per 40 (something zep struggles with). they arent liabilities on defense, usually really good on ball defenders, but they also dont foul a lot
now how could zep fit this role?
zeps main weaknesses are rebounding and 2pt shooting. also hes a couple inches shorter than bruces typical SG. usage rate is extremely low almost invisible, but his efficiency was very good especially in conference play. was a 42.4% 3pt shooter in conference play. if you look at his shooting splits he was taking more mid range jumpers than layups and was significantly lower on makes from mid range. moving him towards that SG role might increase his willingness to take perimeter shots as well as keep him away from those weaknesses in rebounding/efficiency. plus bruce loves having his best onball defender in that SG role. itll be interesting to watch this through the offseason
Current roster
heres how i see the roster right now and what i'm worried about in each position.
with 4 guards on the roster its going to be tough to pull anyone decent from the portal in the 1 and 2 spots imo. i think we'll need a 5th guard though, maybe a 2-3 year project type guy just to add more depth there. one thing we are lacking thats typical with bruce PGs is speed and it was very noticeable when we went into transition. hopefully and offseason in the strength/conditioning program can help there. the other thing most arent talking about is rebounding. our best rebounder coming back is wendell green and thats a LITTLE worrisome. hopefully the young frontcourt we're looking at can step up in a big way there
Top portal prospects
SORTED BY PLAYER RATING
SORTED BY OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY + viable minutes
most interesting names to me are jalen bridges and will richard for SF spot
anyways have a grate friday bunka folk
